What We Actually Test

We are not here to tell you what to buy. We are here to explain, in plain terms, what a product actually does, how it was tested, and where the evidence is thin. If a claim cannot be substantiated, we say so. If two products perform identically despite a large price gap, we say that too.

About Us

Evidence before the hype.

Beauty Science Laboratory is an independent magazine for New Zealand readers who want a clear-eyed look at the products that fill our bathroom cabinets and makeup bags. We run comparative tests on items we buy ourselves, at ordinary retail prices, under our own names. We do not accept free samples for review, we do not run sponsored rankings, and no brand can pay to appear or to be left out. Our findings are reviewed by an editorial committee with backgrounds in dermatology, cosmetic science and pharmacy before anything is published.

This is beauty journalism written for a sceptical, curious reader — measured, specific, and answerable to no one but its own methodology.
